LEA SALONGA KICKS OFF FPAC 20 THIS SATURDAY MORNING


MUSICAL THEATER ICON WILL PERFORM AND MEET FANS AT REGION’S LARGEST FILIPINO EVENT

HEADLINER JOE BATAAN AND FIL-AM DISNEY STAR ROSHON FEGAN ALSO TO PERFORM SATURDAY

(Los Angeles) The 20th Anniversary celebration for the Festival of Philippine Arts and Culture will kick off in the grandest fashion imaginable this Saturday with an exclusive performance and meeting/signing session with the first Filipino Tony Award-winner, Lea Salonga. 
Early first day attendees to the weekend celebration’s opening day will get to meet and see Tony Award-winner Lea Salonga perform up close. 

 
The weekend-long 20th Anniversary FPAC begins Saturday, September 10 at Pt. Fermin Park in San Pedro with doors opening at 10 a.m. 
Ms. Salonga is scheduled to be at the festival between 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. where she will be awarded a special FPAC20 Artist of Excellence Award.

 
In a day bookended by musical icons, FPAC20 headliner and always popular Latin Soul legend Joe Bataan – direct from Spanish Harlem, New York -- will perform on the Mainstage. If past performances are any indication, attendees should be prepared to dance a lot.

 
Throughout its two decades, FPAC has carved out a well-earned reputation for introducing firsts and in yet another, Roshon Fegan, the Filipino American star of Disney hit films CAMP ROCK and CAMP ROCK 2 and Disney Channel series “Shake It Up!” and “Disney 365” will be making his FPAC debut and will treat his fans with an exclusive performance – as his musical alter ego, Ya Boy Ro -- from his just-released EP, “I Am Ro.”  
 
 
Festival attendees can take home some of the day’s performances with them as all three artists will have their music available for purchase and signing.

 
Admission to FPAC20 is $9 per day with children 5 and under free. Ample, hassle-free parking with complimentary shuttle is available at 22nd Street and Sampson in San Pedro.

POWER 106 FM’S DJ E-MAN ALSO TO RECEIVE 2011
FPAC MEDIA ARTIST AWARD
 

(Los Angeles – 12 August 2011)  Multi-award winning singer
and stage actress Lea Salonga, who first gained artistic and international
acclaim for her historic Tony Award-winning role in Miss Saigon and who later parlayed that to Olivier, Drama Desk,
Outer Critics Circle and Theatre World Awards in the field of musical theatre,
will be awarded one of three special FPAC20 Awards for Artistic Excellence at
the 20 th Annual Festival of Philippine Arts and Culture (FPAC).

 Ms. Salonga, the first Asian to play Eponine in the musical Les
Misérables
on Broadway and known to fans as the singing voice of Princess
Jasmine from Aladdin and Fa Mulan for Mulan and Mulan II,
will be feted along with multi-disciplinary artist Faustino Caigoy in celebration of the
popular community tradition’s 20th Anniversary.

 FPAC 20 takes place September 10
– 11 at breathtaking Point Fermin Park in San Pedro from

10 a.m. – 6 p.m. daily.

FPAC attendees will not only be able to meet and get an autograph from
Lea but, they can be among the first to purchase her new live album, “The
Journey So Far” at the festival.

Additionally, DJ E-Man, of top rated Los Angeles radio station Power
106 will receive the 2011 FPAC Award for Media Arts.

An Artist for All Seasons

The multi-faceted Faustino Caigoy, an Iloilo native and decades-long
Southern California resident, is a painter, noted illustrator of children’s
books, author of his own collection of poetry, and teacher in traditional
Filipino arts of baybayin and martial
arts Kali, Eskrima and Arnis.

Faustino was among the group who organized and formed the first
Festival of Philippine Arts and Culture in 1992 and created and designed the
unique, iconic logo which has been the served as the festival’s identity since
inception.

Long Beach native Emmanuel Coquia, better known in the music industry
as DJ E-Man, serves as the Musical Director/Assistant Program Director for top
ranked Power 106 FM, one of most influential radio stations in the nation’s
second largest market.

A rare Asian American in an often decidedly non-diverse business, DJ
E-Man has directly helped to break hit songs and launch music careers including
mainstream breakthroughs for Filipino and Asian singers and groups. He has
toured extensively and performed in The Philippines, Singapore, China and
Trinidad among several countries.

 2011 marks the 20th anniversary of the Festival of
Philippine Arts & Culture (FPAC), a tradition that brings together
Filipinos from across the region to celebrate community, heritage, and cultural
pride.
