FilAm ARTS Advocates For Arts Internships in LA County
Ben Biscocho, Administrative Director for FilAm ARTS, defended the necessity for the Arts Internship Program in LA County on Tuesday 3/16 during a hearing in front of the LA County Board of Supervisors.
The LA County Board of Supervisors has been looking to completely cut the Arts Internship Program, which has provided support for our FPAC interns for many years. The latest news is that the Supervisors are proposing a $250,000 loan to the Commission to pay for the program.
One of Ben’s main points in defending the program, is that students need the paid internship to survive financially during the summer. Many students cannot sustain a basic standard of living off an unpaid internship.

In these difficult financial times, cutting arts funding seems to be a more logical move amidst the other budget line items that our government entities manage. HOWEVER, the BENEFIT and VALUE that the city, county, state and country by far outweighs the minimal resources that the arts receives. Arts programs keep our children engaged in positive and productive environments and out of violent ones.
